With so many area lakes as well as Lake Michigan right in our backyards, area fishermen have a variety of fishing tournaments to take part in each year in Manistee County, sponsored and hosted by different organizations. Below you will find the tournaments that usually occur. Dates for 2022 are being added as they become available.

TBA – Manistee Small Boat Big Fish Tournament, 7am-12pm, Insta Launch Campground & Marina, Manistee. Postponed because of Covid-19 virus concerns.

CANCELED for 2021 – Tight Lines for Troops Charity Fishing Tournament for Michigan Veterans, sponsored in part by Little River Casino Resort and Manistee County Charter Boats. Canceled for 2020.

TBA – Onekama Marine Memorial Weekend Shakedown fishing tournament sponsored in part by Portage Lake Association.

June

TBA – MCSFA Kid Fish Day, Manmade Lake, sponsored by Manistee County Sport Fishing Association.

TBA – MCSFA Ladies Classic Pro/Am, sponsored by Manistee County Sport Fishing Association.

24th-26th – MCSFA Budweiser ProAm Fishing Tournament, sponsored by Manistee County Sport Fishing Association.

July

TBA – Manistee Salmon Splash, Ladies and Kids fish on Friday, men on Saturday & Sunday. Manistee County Sport Fishing Association.

August

TBA – Onekama Shake Down Fishing Tournament, Onekama Marine Inc., Manistee County Sport Fishing Association.

19th-21st – Manistee Monster Mania, Ladies fish Friday; Monster Main Event is Saturday and Sunday. Weighins and prizes at Manistee Lions Pavilion. Manistee County Sport Fishing Association.

Manistee County Fishing Information

Manistee County has an abundance of places where anglers can catch a variety of fish. Numerous charter captains make Manistee their home port, and will happily take you out on Lake Michigan to fish for salmon and trout. The Manistee River runs 190 miles through the northern Lower Peninsula, entering Lake Michigan along the city of Manistee in West Michigan. The Manistee River is considered to be one of the best steelhead, salmon, and trout rivers in Michigan and the Great Lakes.

Manistee National Forest

Manistee National Forest together with the Huron National Forest occupies almost a million acres of land in Michigan’s lower peninsula.

North Country Trail

Created in 1980, this trail has 1,000 miles running through Michigan, which also runs through the Huron-Manistee National Forest.

West Michigan Lighthouses

A site to behold along Lake Michigan, these structures with a rich history give both a sense of safety and a beautiful site.

Visit the new Value of Sports Museum located at Historic White Pine Village just a short drive from Ludington.
